When the Old Man Tries to Return!

A few months ago, I had a dream that I was at home alone, cleaning my house. In the dream, my house was very dark, and grey looking. (It did not look like my real house at all!) Anyway, I was cleaning, and going about my business, and I looked up and saw an old woman standing at the door. She was hideous. I didn't recognize who she was at all. But, she did look familar. I kept telling her to go away. She continued to stand there, not moving like a corpse or something. I was detemined not to let her in. The more that she stood there, the more that I fussed at her, and told her that she would not get in my house. Soon, a storm came up, and the winds and the rain blew her in my house. I continuted to rant and rave, telling her that she had to go. But, she still looked like she was dead. I carried on so much about her getting out of my house until she woke up. She looked at me, and said,"You thought that I was dead, didn't you?" That is when I realized that I had came faced to face with my old self.

I prayed about this dream, and the Lord let me know that some storms of life were coming my way. ANd that Satan was going to attack me really hard, and try to make the "old man" come back to life. But, I had to really pray. Mind you, I know who abides on the inside of me! I know that I am saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. But, God was letting me know, that the old man was not content being dead. Satan does not care who you have preached to, or prayed for. He is constantly on our tracks trying to destroy us and our good works.

Sure enough, a lot of storms came my way not too long after this dream. But thank God for Jesus! I had trouble on my job, and some tests in my home, church life, that really kept me on my knees. So many times, the old man would whisper a lie in my ear, and tell me to do this or that, or tell somebody off. But, the Holy Ghost held me up.

I am reminded of 2 Cor 5:17, "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away. Behold all things become new!" But, the thing is , we have to be"in Christ". The Bible says nothing about being in "self". We cannot depend on our own strength. We are kept only by the power of God.

How many times have the "old man" whispered something in your ear?

Something that you know that God had delivered your from many years ago?

What did you do?

Were you weak, and gave in, or did you resist that liar, and he fled frm you?

You don't owe Satan anything, but to keep him under your feet.

How do we do that? By fasting, praying and reading God's word like it is the best thing on this side of glory. We can't stand on our own. It takes the power of God. We cannot get God's power by not spending time with Him, sacraficing, and denying the flesh. There is no way around it, we need a prayer life, and we need the Holy Ghost.

If you have wrestled with the "Old Man" and lost, then you know that you are lacking what it takes to stand. 1John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". You do have grace and mercy on your side. But, don't keep falling, and yielding to "old man". Once, God forgives you and raises you up, run for your life, and stay free. If you keep letting the old man win, sooner or later, he will kill you for good.

Stop wrestling and fussing with "The Old Man". Get a prayer life going, and let God fill you up with His power and His might. And the next time that old man comes calling, you will have the strength to stand.
